The Earth Child

Composition by Gabriel Fauré and Janet Jennings performed by Natasha Te Rupe-Wilson (soprano) and Somi Kim (piano).

In remembrance of Katherine Mansfield, whose death occurred in Paris on January 9, 1923. The album is a flowing musical tribute to her memory, and launches the exciting duo of German-based soprano Natasha Te Rupe-Wilson and pianist Somi Kim. Includes the world premier recording of settings of five Mansfield poems composed by Jennings; the ravishing La chanson d’Eve of Gabriel Fauré, Parisienne contemporary of Mansfield, here given a performance that goes right to the top of available recordings; alongside Janet Jennings’ settings of Ursula Bethell’s whimsical poems about gardens.

Recorded at the Gallagher Concert Chamber at the University of Waikato in August 2022 by yours truly.

Unusually tidy setup. Is this the best Steinway in New Zealand?

Wayne Laird and I have been experimenting with our setups for a few years now. As we move towards an immersive musical experience with Dolby Atmos, the number of microphones increase and 16 channel recording rig will no longer suffice?
